Using Google’s Keyword Tool
Google’s Keyword Tool is a tool to help you with choosing the right keywords for your ad campaigns, and getting your company website seen by as many people and potential customers as possible.
Google Ads Signup
To start you must sign up for a Google AdWords account which is free to set up. If you have a Google account already, you may use that to login to Google AdWords. After that you will be asked to set up your business details this should be simple for the most part.
Locating the Keyword planner
Once your account is set up and you have signed into Google Adwords, click the ‘Tools & Settings’ tab on the navigation bar at the top of the screen. A drop down menu will appear. Select ‘Keyword Planner’ in the first column and the second option down. Once you have selected the keyword planner, you will be shown two options, ‘Discover new keywords’ and ‘Get search volume and forecasts’.
Keyword Research
If you are unsure on what keywords that you wish to use in your adset, select ‘Discover new keywords’. We will go into the other options in more detail later on. A box will appear allowing you to enter keywords into it. Enter about two or three keywords which are related to your business. Above the graph will be a bar with the location, language and date. Ensure that these are all appropriatly set to what you are targeting. Now you will be able to see all the keywords that you had entered and anything that is similar to the keywords provided. This will show the monthly average searches as well as competition, which is how difficult it is to rank high on the search results (Low to medium is recommended). This will also show the price for bidding on this keyword. You may download this list for future reference and share it with others if consultation is required.

Keyword trends and forecasts
If you are more familiar with the keywords that you wish to use in your adsets you can use the ‘Get search volume and forecasts’ option to find the recent trends of a keyword, how well it performed in the past. You will also be able to see the average monthly searches and the competition rating. This will show how hard it would be to rank highly for that keyword. As well as other data to give you an informed choice. Your keyword list in here will be saved so there is no need to worry for any lost progress on you planner.
You may also publish your keyword list from this menu by selecting create campagin in the top right. This will then ask for the ad campaigns name as well as a budget you wish to put on it. Makes sure that the campaign name is easily recognisable and the budget will be enough for a few clicks from the keywords. If you are usnure on what you should have as a budget, set it as how much money you would not mind using for marketing, this will vary depending on the person and the service they provide. These options can be changed later so there is not any preassure on you to keep the campagins name or budget as you input it now. This list can also be downloaded and shared for future reference and consultation.
